The La Palma Volcano from Tenerife
Getting to the Tajogaite volcano from Tenerife: the fast ferry from Los Cristianos (about 2 h 30), the road to the walks, the one packaged day trip, and why a night on La Palma helps.
From Tenerife the volcano is a long day. Fred. Olsen’s fast ferry takes about 2 hours 30 minutes from Los Cristianos to Santa Cruz de La Palma, and the walks start on the other side of La Palma: Llano del Jable is 24.0 km by road from Santa Cruz. The one packaged day trip from Tenerife we found, on Viator, stops facing the volcano but does not include a walk to the cone. To walk it, spend at least a night on La Palma and book La Palma Outdoor’s La Palma: Tajogaite Volcano Guided Trek, from US$42 a person (checked November 2026), which started at 9:00 AM on the dates we read.
The calendar shows the start times for your date. On 10 March 2027 one adult alone could not book: at least two participants were required that day. You can reserve now, pay later and cancel free until 24 hours before.
The Gobierno de Canarias keeps La Palma’s volcanic traffic light at yellow, “alert” (Infovolcán La Palma, read 8 November 2026), and the Cabildo redrew the exclusion zone around the lava flows on 30 October 2026 (decree 2026/11663). Check both before you go.
The ferry

Fred. Olsen’s fast ferry links Los Cristianos, in the south of Tenerife, with Santa Cruz de La Palma in about 2 hours and 30 minutes, and you can take a car. Its own pages give different numbers of daily departures for the two directions, so check the timetable for your date on fredolsen.es; we print no times or fares.
You can also fly between the islands. We have not read an airline’s timetable, so we give none. La Palma’s airport is 25.2 km by road from Llano del Jable.
From the port to the volcano
Santa Cruz de La Palma, where the ferry docks, is on the east coast, and the walks start across the island: by road it is 24.0 km from the centre of Santa Cruz de La Palma to Llano del Jable, where most of the walks begin, and 30.2 km to Los Llanos de Aridane, on the west side. We measured both along the road network and give no driving time of our own.
La Palma Outdoor’s trek starts from a meeting point shown on the booking page, with a van from there to the start of the walk; it does not collect you from your hotel. Two of the walks we compare include transport: La Palma Transfer & Tours' 360º walk, from US$45, which includes transfers to and from your hotel but offered only a start by car from the El Paso Visitor Center on the three dates we read, and the same company’s 8-hour day with a bus tour, from US$54, with four pickup options on 10 March 2027 (named hotels and bus stops in Fuencaliente, Cancajos, Santa Cruz de La Palma and Puerto Naos) (checked November 2026). The 360º walk had no dates on sale before 16 January 2027 and the 8-hour day none before 3 March 2027.
The day trip from Tenerife
A.J Servitur's Excursion to La Palma from Tenerife South: Volcanic Landscapes is a 10-hour day from US$174 a person (checked November 2026). It collects you from your hotel or an agreed point and takes you to Los Cristianos pier, and the ferry both ways and lunch are included. On La Palma it walks you through Santa Cruz de La Palma, goes up to the island’s patroness at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Snows, stops on a plain of black volcanic sand among Canary pines, and spends 40 minutes at a stop where “you will see the youngest volcanic cone in Spain”. None of its four stops is a walk to the cone.
It runs in a shared group of up to 54, has no reviews yet, is not recommended for people with reduced mobility, and can be cancelled for a full refund up to 24 hours before.

La Palma: Tajogaite Volcano Guided Trek

A.J Servitur on Viator: hotel pickup in Tenerife, the ferry both ways, Santa Cruz de La Palma, lunch and 40 minutes facing the cone. No walk to the cone; no reviews yet.
See it on Viator →Prices, ratings and review counts from the listings (GetYourGuide checked November 2026, Viator checked November 2026). Operators price by date and season, so treat the figures as the shape of the market, not a quote.
If you have the night, the walk is the reason to come. The Cabildo’s rule is that the new volcano is visited only with authorised guides; can you visit the Tajogaite volcano? explains it, and the route comparison compares the walks.
