The Official Route to the Tajogaite Volcano
The Cabildo's trail to the Tajogaite volcano (about 6 km, circular, guided only) against the routes the tours walk: 5, 6.6, 7 and 8 km, where each starts and ends, and the climb.
The Cabildo de La Palma’s trail to the new volcano is a circular walk of about 6 km, about 3 hours on its route card, and it is walked only with authorised guides. None of the tours compared here gives exactly that route: each company walks its own, from a 5 km loop to an 8 km loop. “The Official Route” is the title of one of them, La Palma Excursion’s Tajogaite Volcano: The Official Route with a Licensed Local Guide, from US$41 a person (checked November 2026): about 7 km downhill from Llano del Jable to Las Manchas, with transport at both ends.
The calendar shows La Palma Excursion’s dates. It started at 9:00 AM on 27 November 2026, 20 January and 10 March 2027, and one adult could book on all three. You can reserve now, pay later and cancel free until 24 hours before.
The Gobierno de Canarias keeps La Palma’s volcanic traffic light at yellow, “alert” (Infovolcán La Palma, read 8 November 2026), and the Cabildo redrew the exclusion zone around the lava flows on 30 October 2026 (decree 2026/11663). Can you visit the Tajogaite volcano? has both in detail.
What the Cabildo publishes
The trail page on the Cabildo’s tourism site, visitlapalma.es, gives the route in a few lines: a circular walk of about 6 km, “a little over 2 hours” in the text and 3 hours on the route card, low difficulty, in El Paso, with a permit required and booking only through an authorised company (read November 2026).
That is all it gives. It prints no start point, no price, no group size and no days of operation, and it draws no line of the route. The companies that hold the authorisation set those, which is why the tours below start and end in different places.
What the tours walk

| Tajogaite Volcano, the essential route: 5 km short version (La Palma Natural) | Loop from Llano del Jable | 5 km | 3 hours |

So there are two kinds of walk. The loops come back to where they began, which means climbing back up what you came down: 300 m on La Palma Outdoor’s two loops. The one-way walks start high at Llano del Jable, at about 1,200 m, and drop to Las Manchas, one of the districts the eruption hit hardest, with transport waiting at the end. La Palma Excursion’s is almost entirely downhill and suits the hot months for that reason, though in summer the heat can still make it significantly harder.
How close each walk comes to the craters differs from tour to tour, and the figures do not agree, so we print none of them. On La Palma Outdoor’s trek you go around the back edge of the new volcano and do not climb onto the crater.
What “official” means on a listing
“The Official Route” is a product title, not a separate trail. Every walk in the table is guided: La Palma Excursion’s by a certified local guide, La Palma Natural’s by guides with a qualification from the Government of the Canary Islands, La Palma Transfer & Tours’ by licensed or authorised guides. The Cabildo publishes no list of which company walks which line, so we cannot tell you which tour follows its 6 km circle most closely.
